International stocks trading in New York closed higher Tuesday,
with the Bank of New York index of American depositary receipts
rising 0.6% to 149.92. The European index added 0.8% to 148.47, the
Asian index rose 0.2% to 146.85, the Latin American index was
essentially flat at 274.29 and the emerging markets index rose 0.3%
to 269.20. Among the companies with shares that actively traded are
Petroleo Brasileiro SA (PBR, PETR3.BR, PETR4.BR) and
STMicroelectronics NV (STM, STM.FR).
Brazil's state-run oil company Petrobras launched into the new
year with a large bond offering while other Brazilian firms may
also be looking to strike early in 2014. Petrobras raised the
equivalent of about $5.17 billion through the sale of bonds
denominated in euros and British pounds. Shares fell 2% to
$12.90.
In Europe, a number of technology companies were impacted by a
note from Barclays on the sector. Analysts said they see a gradual
improvement for the European tech sector. However, shares of
France's STMicroelectronics dropped 1.8% to $7.68 after a cut to
underweight from equalweight.
Mexican airport operator, Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico SAB
de CV (PAC, GAP.MX) said passenger traffic rose 13.7% in December
compared to the previous year. Domestic passenger traffic rose
15.5%, while international passenger traffic increased 10.6%, said
the company. Shares rose 3.7% to $50.43.
Yingli Green Energy Holding Co. (YGE) said that its wholly-owned
subsidiary, Yingli Energy (China) Co. has entered into an
investment agreement to establish a joint venture with China Rich
Energy Corp., a wholly-owned subsidiary of China National Nuclear
Corp., to develop and construct distributed generation solar
projects across China. Shares rose 8.4% to $7.08.
