BRUSSELS--AT&T Inc. and Time Warner Inc. officially
registered their $85 billion merger with European Union antitrust
regulators, according to a statement on the European Commission's
website.
The commission, the bloc's competition watchdog, is giving
itself until March 17 to decide on the deal, though the deadline
could still be extended. The companies officially notified the deal
to the EU on Feb. 10, according to the statement.
The merger still needs approval from regulators in other
jurisdictions, including the U.S., where the companies' executives
are trying to navigate a tricky political landscape, where
President Donald Trump has expressed hostility to the deal.
