Turkcell Says Faces TRY527.7 Million Tax Demand and Fine

ISTANBUL--Turkish mobile telephone operator Turkcell Iletisim
Hizmetleri AS (TCELL.IS) said Thursday that tax authorities had
imposed a 527.7 million Turkish lira ($245 million) tax demand and
fine because of a special communication tax for the 2008-2012
period.
In a statement to the Istanbul stock exchange, the company said
it will appeal the tax demand and fine. All types of installation,
transfer and telecommunication services provided by mobile phone
operators are subject to a special communication tax.
At 1330 GMT, Turkcell shares were trading 3.6% lower at TRY10.94
amid an overall lower Istanbul market, which was down 2.26%.
