Recent hires bring decades of combined industry experience to
the utility sector
Today, Navigant (NYSE: NCI) announced the addition of five
strategic hires to bolster the strength of the Firm’s expanding
energy practice. With decades of combined industry experience,
these professionals bring deep expertise, insight, and experience
in a broad areas, including transmission planning, system
operations, grid modernization, utility strategy and regulation,
customer engagement, and technology advisory, adding additional
value to the services Navigant offers clients. Those who have
recently joined the practice include Don Morrow, Managing Director;
David O’Brien, Director; Al Galiunas, Director; K.P. Reddy,
Director; and Karen Ehrhardt-Martinez, Associate Director.

Don Morrow, Managing Director
Don Morrow will lead the Firm’s Transmission Planning and
Operations service offerings. He has more than 33 years of
experience in the energy industry, with extensive experience
working directly for utilities in system operations and planning,
including building a transmission consulting practice and
cultivating a compliance consulting services team for a leading
power reliability corporation. Morrow has held senior positions at
Madison Gas and Electric Company, American Transmission Company,
and Quanta Technology. Morrow has published several industry
articles and is a frequent speaker at industry seminars and
conferences.
David O’Brien, Director
David O’Brien provides leadership to the Strategy and Operations
group. O’Brien, who focuses on utility-of-the-future-oriented
service offerings, is a well-known industry reform expert and
brings more than 12 years of experience to Navigant as a former
state regulator and utility consultant. Previously, O’Brien was
Vice President of Grid Transformation at BRIDGE Energy Group, where
he focused on structural changes in the electric utility industry.
He has experience leading the development of a technical framework
for the Distributed System Platform (DSP) within the Reforming the
Energy Vision (REV) process. O’Brien, who got his start in the
energy field as Vermont Commissioner of Public Service, has also
engaged in multiple state policy investigations regarding grid
modernization and has authored performance-based ratemaking
framework that was influential in the Massachusetts Grid
Modernization order (12-76).
Al Galiunas, Director
Al Galiunas supports Navigant’s technology advisory and grid
modernization service offerings, specifically focused on complex
IT/OT convergence. Galiunas has held senior positions at Ernst
& Young, KEMA Consulting, and Arthur Andersen. He has
experience with grid management-related initiatives that help
address continued challenges to the CIO agenda by delivering IT
transformations, technology enablement, and major program
implementations. He was one of the leads involved in ERCOT’s
benefits cost study evaluating the impacts to systems and
processes, and was involved in the rollout of retail deregulation
for the Texas market. With more than 20 years of experience in the
energy industry, Galiunas has successfully applied value-based
approaches for integrating technologies, applications, processes,
and people, between IT and OT, within commercial, market, and
customer service operations.
K.P. Reddy, Director
K.P. Reddy supports Navigant’s technology advisory and grid
modernization service offerings. Reddy, who has worked with
electric, gas, and water utilities across the United States and
abroad, brings expertise in utility transmission and distribution,
with a focus on mobile field force optimization, customer
information systems, and work/asset management. With 33 years of
industry experience, Reddy worked with business and IT executives
in developing strategic technology plans, supporting clients in
execution, and acting as a trusted advisor. Reddy spent 15 years
working at Southern Company, focused on customer service, billing
and telecommunications. Prior to joining Navigant, Reddy spent four
years as a Director in PwC’s Utility practice, and two and a half
years as a Principal at NorthHighland Consulting. Reddy has been
published in PowerGrid International and has spoken at industry
conferences.
Karen Ehrhardt-Martinez, Associate Director
Karen Ehrhardt-Martinez is an Associate Director with Navigant’s
energy practice and a nationally recognized sociologist and
behavior expert. As an experienced social science professional,
Ehrhardt-Martinez focuses on ways to integrate social and
behavioral science insights into Navigant’s service offerings,
particularly through exploring the human dimensions of customer
engagement, energy efficiency and conservation, and climate change.
Prior to joining Navigant, Ehrhardt-Martinez worked on customer
engagement and residential feedback programs, program design,
implementation and evaluation, energy savings potential modelling,
policy research, and new product development. She is the former
director of the Climate, Mind, and Behavior Program at the Garrison
Institute and responsible for re-establishing the social and
behavioral research program at ACEEE. Ehrhardt-Martinez is
currently serving as a Scholar-in-Residence for the Department of
Sociology at the University of Colorado Boulder.
