International stocks trading in New York closed lower on
Thursday.
The BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts fell 1.1%
to 146.66. The European index decreased 1% to 144.93; the Asian
index dropped 1.1% to 155.14; the Latin American index declined
1.4% to 213.7; and the emerging markets index retreated 1.3% to
261.84. Mindray Medical International Ltd. (MR, K3QD.SG) was among
the companies with ADRs that traded actively.
ADRs of Mindray rose 11% to $30.47 after the China-based company
said that three of its executives have proposed taking it private
for $3.5 billion in cash. The executives offered to acquire all of
the shares outstanding they don't already own for $30 an ADR, a
price tag that represents a 9.2% premium over Wednesday's closing
price.
ADRs of ABB Ltd. (ABB, ABBN.VX, ABB.SK) rose 3.6% to $23.14
after active investor Cevian Capital bought a 3.1% stake in the
power and automation giant. The investment makes Cevian one of
ABB's three largest shareholders, along with Sweden's Investor AB,
which owns 9.3%, and BlackRock Inc. USA, which has 3%.
