L-3 Communications (NYSE:LLL) announced today that three of its
business units have won James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial
Security Achievement Awards from the U.S. Department of Defense,
Defense Security Service (DSS). L-3’s Mission Integration division
in Greenville, Texas, its Unidyne facility in Middletown, R.I., and
its Systems Company operation in Camden, N.J., were selected as
three of 41 recipients of this year’s award from a field of 13,000
cleared defense contractors.
L-3 has been recognized with 20 Cogswell Awards for excellence
in industrial security since 2005. The Cogswell Award is the
highest honor a company can receive for the handling of classified
information and this marks the 11th consecutive year that L-3 has
received one or more Cogswell Awards for its industry-leading
security practices.
“Industrial security is a key component of our national security
infrastructure and the overall economic security of the nation. We
are deeply honored to be recognized by DSS, not only for meeting
its high standards, but also for demonstrating our ongoing
commitment to safeguarding sensitive information,” said Vincent L.
Jarvie, L-3’s vice president of corporate security. “I am very
proud of our men and women, whose outstanding accomplishments
continue to distinguish L-3 in a global environment where
exceptional security practices are synonymous with business
leadership.”
In selecting candidates for the Cogswell Award, a national
review team ranks the closely vetted nominees through a competitive
and meticulous process that focuses on consistency and innovation
in managing well-executed security programs. DSS makes the final
award selections.
Headquartered in New York City, L-3 employs approximately 45,000
people worldwide and is a prime contractor in aerospace systems and
national security solutions. L-3 is also a leading provider of a
broad range of communication and electronic systems and products
