TOKYO—Honda Motor Co. won't use any air-bag inflaters made by Takata Corp. for the driver or front passenger side in new Honda and Acura vehicles being developed for any markets world-wide, the auto maker said.

Honda, Takata's biggest customer, also said in a statement Tuesday that it became aware of evidence suggesting Takata misrepresented and manipulated test data for certain types of inflaters.

The statement came as U.S. auto-safety regulators hit Takata with a $70 million fine for lapses with rupture-prone air bags, and ordered the company eventually to stop using a controversial propellant in the safety devices.

Takata's chief executive Shigehisa Takada is set to hold a news conference in Tokyo on Wednesday at 11 a.m. (0200 GMT).

Honda will announce second-quarter results later Wednesday, with executives to brief the media.

Takata shares were down nearly 5% in early trade Wednesday.
