(NYSE: FII), one of the nation's largest investment managers, today announced Stephen Van Meter's appointment as chief compliance officer of Federated effective July 30, 2015. Van Meter has also been appointed chief compliance officer of the Federated family of funds. Van Meter oversees the policies and procedures that are designed to assure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements throughout Federated and the funds. He replaces Brian Bouda, who retires July 29.

"With expertise gained from his years at both Federated and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Stephen Van Meter has greatly contributed to the compliance department's adoption, implementation and adherence to federal securities laws," said John McGonigle, chief legal officer at Federated. "We are confident his knowledge, experience and diligence will benefit Federated as he takes on this role that is critical to the organizational strategy and enterprise-wide success."

Van Meter joined Federated's compliance department in 2011, coming directly from an eight-year stretch at the SEC, where he served as senior counsel in the Division of Investment Management, Office of Chief Counsel, since 2007. Prior to that, he was senior counsel in the Division of Enforcement. Additional experience includes a year as law clerk, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, and two years as an attorney with Reed Smith LLP. Van Meter earned his bachelor's degree at Loyola University Maryland and his juris doctorate at University of Pittsburgh School of Law.

"Brian Bouda has been an exemplary leader at Federated over the last 16 years, overseeing the growth of the compliance function to meet the demands of increasingly complex U.S. and international regulations," McGonigle said. "We are appreciative of his years of service and wish him well in his retirement."
