13,000 miles of aerial line and 1,932 circuits inspected

PECO has recently inspected 1,932 circuits and more than 13,000 miles of aerial electric lines to keep the lights on for its customers across the region. This $400,000 investment includes visual inspection of PECO’s aerial electric system to look for potential issues like damaged equipment and sagging lines. Infrared cameras are also used to identify potential issues before an outage occurs by recording equipment temperature variations during operation.

“We are constantly monitoring and inspecting our equipment to identify and address potential issues before they impact our customers,” said Dave Weaver, vice president of Technical Services. “This work is part of the more than $500 million we invest each year to enhance our electric system and keep the lights on for our customers.”

PECO’s ongoing efforts to enhance the company’s system has helped deliver record-breaking performance for its customers. In 2015, customers experienced the shortest average outage duration and second fewest number of outages in company history.

PECO’s overall preventive maintenance program also includes regular inspection of manholes, underground cables, transformers, substations and natural gas pipelines.
