The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW) announced today that
researchers Bharat Chaudhary, Ph.D., Stéphane Costeux, Ph.D. and
Mridula (Babli) Kapur, Ph.D. have been elected as fellows of the
Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE). They are among 12 fellows SPE
will honor during ANTEC 2016, the world’s largest technical
conference devoted to plastics, to be held in Indianapolis from May
23-25. Fellows honor recognizes members who have made outstanding
contributions in plastics science, engineering, or management.
“Three SPE fellows named in the same year is an amazing feat,”
says A.N. Sreeram, Dow senior vice president and chief technology
officer. “Babli, Bharat and Stéphane are all incredible
researchers, all well deserving of this honor. This is a great
personal achievement for each of them, having excelled at
developing new products that meet critical customer needs while
finding time for committed service to the Society of Plastics
Engineers. It is also a great day for Dow, once again highlighting
our exceptional R&D team.”
Chaudhary is a principal research scientist at Dow’s Northeast
Technology Center in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. He obtained his
Ph.D. and M.Sc. from Imperial College, London (U.K.) and a B.Eng.
from the University of Benin (Nigeria), all in Chemical
Engineering. He has more than 26 years of experience leading
research and development in a variety of areas related to polymer
modification (particularly sustainable approaches based on blends,
functionalization and crosslinking).
Costeux is a R&D fellow based at Dow’s Research Center in
Midland, Michigan. He earned a M.Sc. and R&D Engineer diploma
from ESPCI (Paris, France) and holds a Ph.D. in Physics of Liquids
from University Pierre & Marie Curie in Paris. Since joining
Dow in 2002, he has applied his expertise in rheology, materials
science, polymer processing and modeling to the design of
commercial high melt strength resins and new foam materials, and to
the advancement of nanocellular foam technology.
Kapur is a materials science fellow in Dow’s Packaging and
Specialty Plastics business unit and is based at the Company’s
Innovation Center in Freeport, Texas. Her research work spans a
number of areas including a novel multifunctional analyzer approach
for product quality control; combination of catalyst, process, and
materials science with application performance requirements
resulting in new, enhanced performance polyethylene product
portfolios to meet evolving market needs; and intellectual property
protection. She is also involved in defining university/external
institute-industry collaborations.
Established in 1984, only 314 fellows of the Society of Plastics
Engineers have been named. Fellows are recognized for “outstanding
contributions in the field of plastics engineering, science or
technology, or in the management of such activities.” Drs.
Chaudhary, Costeux and Kapur join Dow colleagues Mark Barger, Brian
Landes Rajen Patel, Kaylan Sehanobish, and Mark Spalding as current
fellows of the Society.
