CBS on Monday extended news chief David Rhodes's contract
through 2019, praising the executive's news judgement and
competitive acumen.
Mr. Rhodes was brought in by the former chairman of CBS News,
Jeff Fager, in 2011 amid a management shakeup. When Mr. Fager
stepped down in November to return to his role as executive
producer of the newsmagazine program "60 Minutes," Mr. Rhodes was
named the sole leader of the news division.
Mr. Rhodes's "emphasis on hard news and original reporting is
evident across all platforms," the company said.
Prior to joining CBS, Mr. Rhodes held senior roles at Bloomberg
and Fox News.
CBS shares, up 13% this year, are little changed in recent
after-hours trading.
