Citigroup Inc. said Tuesday that economist Peter Blair Henry
would join the bank's board of directors this summer.
Mr. Henry, the dean of New York University's Stern School of
Business, is an authority on emerging-market economies.
"Peter's expertise in the economics of emerging markets and his
unique perspective that spans the public sector, academia and
business make him a valuable addition to Citi," Citigroup Chairman
Michael E. O'Neill said in a news release.
Mr. Henry will join the board July 1.
The economist is also a member of several other prominent
bodies, including the Council on Foreign Relations and the National
Bureau of Economic Research. He is also a member of Kraft Food
Group Inc.'s board.
The appointment comes as Citigroup and other big banks look to
rebound from a disappointing earnings season. Citigroup, which
posted a steep profit decline last month, has struggled with legal
problems, a troublesome international economic picture and
regulatory pressures.
Citi is also looking to bounce back from failing a Federal
Reserve stress test last year. The bank has spent more on
compliance, resulting in higher operating expenses, while also
focusing on higher capital returns to investors.
