MELBOURNE, Australia--BHP Billiton Ltd. (BHP) plans to call the
company it plans to spin off from its core operations South32,
after the 32nd parallel in the Southern Hemisphere that links the
location of the new company's businesses in Australia and South
Africa.
Graham Kerr, chief executive-elect of South32, said the demerger
of the new company remains on track for the second half of
2015.
The company's headquarters will be in Perth, Australia, with a
planned primary listing on the Australian Securities Exchange, a
listing in London and a secondary listing in Johannesburg. It will
comprise aluminum, coal, manganese, nickel and silver assets spun
off from Melbourne-based BHP.
Mr. Kerr said the name of the new company was suggested by an
employee of the business.
