Nucor Corp. said its board has authorized the repurchase of up to $900 million of stock from time to time.

The steel-products company, which has a market capitalization of about $13.68 billion, also said Laurette T. Koellner has joined its board. Ms. Koellner is a former Boeing Co. executive who was executive chairman of International Lease Finance Corp. from 2012 through 2014.

In after-hours trading, Nucor shares were up 36 cents, to $43.16.

In July, Nucor said its second-quarter profit fell mainly on a slump in steel prices, but predicted a better second half in part because of stronger trade protection laws. Revenue for the quarter fell 18%, to $4.36 billion.
