LONDON--U.K.-based Wm Morrison Supermarkets PLC (MRW.LN) said Tuesday that Andrew Higginson will become chairman when Sir Ian Gibson retires in 2015.

Mr. Higginson, who will join the company's board on Oct. 1 as non-executive deputy chairman and chairman elect, is chairman of U.K. discount retailer Poundland PLC (PLND.LN) and U.K. internet retailer N Brown Group PLC (BWNG.LN) as well as senior independent director of media company BSkyB PLC (BSY.LN). Prior to that he served as an Executive Director at Tesco Corp. (TESO) for 15 years.

"Andy Higginson has a tremendous reputation and a distinguished career at the forefront of retailing in the U.K. and I am sure he will be a huge asset to Morrisons," said Mr. Gibson.
