Teleflex Incorporated (NYSE: TFX), a leading global provider of
medical devices for critical care and surgery, has announced that
the ARROW® EZ-IO® Vascular Access System has reached a new growth
milestone by surpassing 3 million needles sold globally in early
September 2014.
“This is a significant milestone for the Arrow® EZ-IO® Vascular
Access System because it demonstrates that IO is gaining acceptance
for emergency and difficult vascular access,” said Jay White,
President and General Manager, Vascular Access Division, Teleflex.
“It demonstrates the lifesaving capabilities of the EZ-IO vascular
Access System through its clinical benefits centered around ease of
use, speed to vascular access, and safety.”
The Arrow® EZ-IO® Vascular Access System is a safe, fast,
effective vascular access option that provides peripheral venous
access with central venous catheter performance. It’s ideal for
patients in whom peripheral vascular access is difficult or
impossible in the hospital and pre-hospital setting.
In a recent Huffington Post article profiling Dr. Suzanne
Donovan, a physician traveling to Sierra Leone to fight the recent
Ebola outbreak, intraosseous (IO) infusion was identified as one of
the safest ways of providing fluids to patients who can't take oral
fluids. Teleflex is proud to have supported Dr. Donovan’s efforts
with a donation.
Teleflex will feature the ARROW® EZ-IO® Vascular Access System
at the upcoming annual conferences for the American College of
Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and EMS World Expo. Both conferences
will feature educational cadaver labs that will provide a unique
hands-on opportunity for participants to practice vascular access
techniques as well as receive an in-depth review of associated
anatomy on cadaveric specimens.
ACEP 2014 will be held October 27-30 at the McCormick Convention
Center, in Chicago, IL. EMS World Expo will be held November 9-13
at the Music City Center, in Nashville, TN.
Potential complications with the ARROW® EZ-IO® Vascular Access
System may include local or systemic infection, hematoma,
extravasations, or any other complications associated with
percutaneous insertion of sterile devices.
