Target Corp. said Friday that the head of its website is leaving
the company weeks before the busy holiday season.
Target.com President Jason Goldberger has departed the company
four months after he was promoted to chief digital officer and a
week after he spoke to reporters in Minneapolis about the work he
has been spearheading to improve Target's website.
Target didn't provide a reason for his departure, and Mr.
Goldberger wasn't immediately available for comment.
In the past year, Mr. Goldberger had been working to revamp the
company's website after it suffered from technical problems on
Cyber Monday of last year. He was also in charge of pricing and
promotions for the company.
His departure comes as the retailer has struggled with falling
sales and lower foot traffic to its stores. Growth to its online
sales has slowed as it struggles to keep pace with Amazon.com
Inc.
Mr. Goldberger's duties are being divided between two
executives. Chief Information Officer Mike McNamara will oversee
the website and digital strategy and Chief Merchandising Officer
Mark Tritton will take over pricing and promotions. Mr. Tritton was
hired on June 5, the same day Mr. Goldberger was promoted to chief
digital officer.
Target split the duties to "provide clear accountability and
speed up decision making," CEO Brian Cornell said in a statement.
"Taking this body of work in a new direction will help advance our
efforts in these key areas during a pivotal time for Target."
