ZURICH -- Roche Holding AG said Friday it was nominating the chief financial officer of medical equipment maker Smith & Nephew PLC to its board of directors after long-serving member Dame DeAnne Julius chose not to run for re-election.

Basel-based Roche said its board had nominated Julie Brown to replace Dame Julius, who has served since 2002. Dame Julius, who serves as the chairman of the audit committee, made the decision not to seek re-election at the company's annual general meeting next year, Roche said in a statement.

Ms. Brown was appointed CFO of Smith & Nephew, which makes artificial joints and trauma care products, in 2013 after a long career at AstraZeneca PLC, where she had held positions including vice president of group finance and interim CFO. Ms. Brown also held strategy and marketing roles at Astra.
