has announced the addition of the "Annual Market Outlook - Global
DSL Port Shipments (2015-2020)" report to their offering.
Most fixed line operators have long-term plans to deploy
Fiber-to-theHome (FTTH) technologies to future-proof their network
from unanticipated bandwidth demand. Unfortunately, a number of
factors impact the reality of this choice in the near term -
particularly the competitive, regulatory and economic
environments.
As such, many operators are looking for interim solutions that
enable them to compete more effectively with alternative
technologies (for instance DOCSIS 3.0/3.1 and 4G LTE) and to meet
the targets of many regulatory policies, such as the Digital Agenda
for Europe. By driving fiber deeper into the network but still
leveraging their copper assets, operators will be able to quickly
address demand for greater speeds, coverage and services.
VDSL2 Vectoring alone, or in combination with VDSL2 bonding,
along with forthcoming technologies such as G.fast are breathing
new life into the copper plant by providing FTTH-like speeds over
copper lines. Additionally, these solutions can address the
immediate time-tomarket, competitive and regulatory challenges;
while operators prepare their networks for the eventual migration
to FTTH.
VDSL2 Vectoring proving to be a viable solution and is meeting
operator expectations in terms of speeds. As such, VDSL ports will
continue to represent a growing proportion of total DSL ports,
while we forecast that 27 percent of all cumulative VDSL2 ports
will be vectored by 2020, with EMEA representing 58 percent of
total.
