MILAN--Italian broadcaster Mediaset SpA (MS.MI) said Tuesday that French media group Vivendi SA (VIV.FR) no longer wishes to acquire all of its pay-TV unit, reversing a decision from April.

Mediaset, which is controlled by the family of former Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi, said that Vivendi sent Mediaset a letter Monday stating that it was no longer interested in taking 100% of Mediaset Premium.

Instead, it is proposing to acquire only 20% of the unit, plus an additional 15% in three years.

Mediaset said that the Vivendi letter "comes absolutely out of the blue" and is in "clear contradiction" with the April agreement.
