SYDNEY--BHP Billiton Ltd. (BHP.AU) said its Olympic Dam copper,
gold and uranium mine has been shut down because of power outages
in South Australia state.
South Australia suffered a state-wide blackout on Wednesday
because of storms and severe winds, and extensive outages are
continuing on Thursday, electricity distributor SA Power Networks
said.
"Following the loss of power in South Australia, Olympic Dam was
able to safely shut down," a BHP Billiton spokesman said in an
emailed statement. "Back-up generators are currently providing
power to critical infrastructure and will allow a restart of
operations when power is restored."
