As the free agent options continue to dwindle, both the New York
Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets made minor free agent acquisitions
Tuesday.
Free agent forward Luis Scola, who last played with the Toronto
Raptors, agreed to a one-year deal with the Nets today, according
to Yahoo Sports. The Knicks, for their part, retained their own
free agent guard Sasha Vujacic, signing him to a one-year deal, per
Yahoo Sports as well.
Vujacic, 32, will be signed to a veteran's minimum deal worth $
1.4 million. He played in 61 games for the Knicks last season,
averaging 4.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.
Knicks president Phil Jackson coached Vujacic when the Slovenian
shooter entered the league in 2004 as a member of the Los Angeles
Lakers that went on to win NBA titles in 2009 and 2010.
Scola, meanwhile, is headed to Brooklyn after a 76-game stint
with the Toronto Raptors, where he averaged 8.7 points, 4.7
rebounds and one assist per contest.
The 36-year-old Argentine who entered the league in 2007 will be
the only player on the Nets over 30 years old, bringing a veteran
presence to an otherwise young franchise that is trying to
rebuild.
Over the weekend, the Nets' offers to restricted free agents
Allen Crabbe and Tyler Johnson were rescinded after the Portland
Trailblazers and Miami Heat respectively matched the offers.
