U.S. regulators on Tuesday affirmed the three winners of coveted
slots to start services to Tokyo's Haneda Airport later this
year.
The Department of Transportation made final the tentative awards
of two daily flights for Delta Air Lines Inc. (DAL), and one each
for AMR Corp. (AMR), parent of American Airlines, and Hawaiian
Holdings Inc. (HA), parent of Hawaiian Airlines.
United Airlines' parent UAL Corp. (UAUA) and merger partner
Continental Airlines Inc. (CAL) had also sought authority to fly to
the downtown Tokyo airport, a favorite with business travelers,
when the opening of a new runway in October paves the way for
international flights to restart.
