PORTLAND, Ore., March 25, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Rentrak
(NASDAQ: RENT), the leader in precisely measuring movies and
TV everywhere, today announced the top weekly cross-platform
entertainment rankings for March 25,
2015.
The young adult audience showed up in droves around the world
this past weekend driving Lionsgate's "The Divergent Series:
Insurgent" to the top of global chart with $101.6 million in
its first weekend, including $48.4
million coming from 9,500 screens in 76 international
markets and $52.3 million in North America (where it also
took the number one spot). Notably, the movie, starring
Shailene Woodley and a solid
ensemble cast, is the number one movie in 66 of those
markets.
It's no surprise that the DVD and Blu-ray Sales and Rental
charts, as well as our Movies on Demand and Digital Purchases
and Rentals charts, are all topped by Lionsgate's "The Hunger
Games: Mockingjay Part 1." The movie was a massive hit in theaters
globally, earning more than $750
million and it now continues its winning ways to generate
revenue on the small screen.
On our Digital Purchases and Rentals chart,
Lionsgate's "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1," climbed up
the ranks to the number one position, now in its third week of
release. Warner Bros.' "The Hobbit: Battle Of The Five
Armies," available as a digital purchase only, debuted very strong
at the number two position. Sony's "Foxcatcher," also
debuted well, landing at the fifth position, while Fox's "Exodus:
Gods And Kings," opened at number six in its first week of
release.
CBS' "Blue Bloods" tops our broadcast TV engagement chart this
week as NBC's "The Voice" grabs the mic in second place (moving up
from fourth place last week). Univision's "Mi corazon es tuyo"
moves to third from second place last week.
It's a case of deja vu as AMC's ever-popular "The Walking Dead"
tops the cable TV engagement chart once again, followed by
TNT's police drama "Rizzoli & Isles" and Discovery's
reality TV series "Gold Rush."
Finally, in our combined social media and digital
engagement chart for viewers of broadcast and cable telecasts,
"The Voice" continues to hit the high notes with Adam Levine's blind audition resulting
in the most popular video of the week. "SportsCenter" continued its
strong presence on Instagram, moving up to number two this week,
with an InstaVideo of a freshman band member from North
Florida dancing his way to over 104k interactions.
