Roughly 62,000 of Wells Fargo & Co.'s 265,000 employees have been logged on and working from home recently as the novel coronavirus spreads, according to CEO Charlie Scharf.

Mr. Scharf, testifying before the House Financial Services Committee on Tuesday on the troubled bank's sales practices scandal, said the company is taking precautions to keep employees safe.

"We are approaching the virus as I think you would expect us to," Mr. Scharf told the committee.

On Saturday, a worker in one of the bank's San Francisco offices tested positive for the virus. The bank said Monday the employee is at home and being monitored. The bank also said it enhanced its cleaning practices on the floor where the employee worked and asked others on the floor to work from home on Friday.
