Honeywell International Inc. has agreed to buy smoke detection and video security company Xtralis for $480 million.

Founded in 1984 and based in Dublin, Xtralis's majority shareholders are Australasian private-equity firm Pacific Equity Partners and San Francisco-based private-equity firm Blum Capital Partners.

Xtralis would be part of Honeywell Security and Fire, a unit of Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions, which accounts for about a third of its annual sales.

A New Jersey-based conglomerate, Honeywell is best known for making aircraft parts and climate control systems.

The deal, subject to regulatory approval, is expected to close in the second quarter.

Honeywell's stock closed Thursday at $102.55, up 1.8% over the past 12 months.
