Constellation is scoring a hole in one against hunger through
the 2016 Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship, June 9-12 at
the Philadelphia Cricket Club, by joining forces with Fiorenza’s
Food For Friends (F4), a nonprofit dedicated to eradicating hunger,
on programming that will support two Philadelphia-area
organizations.
“Constellation is pleased to join forces with F4 to fight hunger
in the Philadelphia area,” said Bruce Stewart, senior vice
president and chief marketing officer for Constellation. “Not only
is this effort consistent with the Championship’s tradition of
giving back, preventing food waste exemplifies two of
Constellation’s core values— supporting our communities and
promoting sustainability.”
Excess food from all four days of this year’s championship will
be donated to Saint John’s Hospice, a homeless shelter in
Philadelphia’s Center City neighborhood that serves over 3,000
meals each week to men in need. Constellation also encourages fans
attending the championship to join in the effort to reduce hunger
by bringing non-perishable food items for a food drive benefitting
the food pantry at the Colonial Neighborhood Council which provides
various relief services to residents of Conshohocken, Plymouth and
Whitemarsh, Pa. Collection places will be located at the shuttle
station in the general parking lot located at the Ft. Washington
Expo Center.
“Saint John’s Hospice is humbled to be a part of such a
prestigious event,” said Anthony Willoughby, food services manger
for Saint John’s Hospice. “A meal is not just a meal, it is dignity
for those homeless and disenfranchised who seek food.”
Volunteers from F4 will coordinate the delivery of excess food
throughout the week of the championship. Following its conclusion
on Sunday, Saint John’s will join Prom Catering, the catering
choice of PGA TOUR Champions, onsite to safely transfer all
remaining usable food items. Prom Catering expects that nearly
1,000 pounds of food will be delivered to Saint John’s.
“F4 commends Constellation and PGA TOUR Champions on their
efforts to both prevent the waste of excess food and engage the
community in fighting hunger,” said Derek Fiorenza, President and
CEO of F4. “Thanks to partnerships like this one, F4 has secured
more than 600,000 pounds of food for numerous area organizations
since 2011.”
This effort is an expansion of the Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS
Championship’s long tradition of giving back to the communities
where it’s held. The championship has generated more than $10
million for charity since 1992 and, this year, will provide
$500,000 in funding to nine Philadelphia-area non-profit
organizations focused on the areas of education, youth development,
affordable housing, and health care.
