Significant storm preparation and system
investments prevent storm-related outages
As 2016’s first winter storm blanketed the region with more than
two feet of snow, PECO’s electric and natural gas systems performed
well without significant impact to customers.
More than 3,000 PECO employees, local contractors and crews from
PECO’s sister utility ComEd worked around the clock, monitoring
conditions, addressing customer concerns and restoring service to
fewer than 11,000 customers impacted during the two-day storm.
“Our customers depend on us to safely deliver the energy they
need,” said PECO President and CEO Craig Adams. “We invest in our
system and work hard year round to prevent those outages that are
preventable when winter storms occur.”
In 2015, PECO invested more than half a billion dollars to
improve its electric and natural gas service for customers. This
included inspecting more than 10,000 miles of aerial and
underground lines and equipment; completing more than $36 million
of tree trimming and vegetation work; and replacing more than
95,000 feet of natural gas line with new plastic pipe, which is
safer, more durable and improves service.
Based in Philadelphia, PECO is an electric and natural gas
utility subsidiary of Exelon Corporation (NYSE: EXC). The
company’s 2,400 dedicated employees provide advanced, innovative
energy solutions to 1.6 million electric and more than 506,000
natural gas customers in southeastern Pennsylvania. In 2014
PECO delivered 89.9 billion cubic feet of natural gas and 37.5
billion kilowatt-hours of electricity and had an estimated economic
impact of $4.5 billion in Pennsylvania, supporting more than 9,600
local jobs and producing $760 million in labor income. Founded in
1881, PECO is one of the Greater Philadelphia Region's most active
corporate citizens, providing leadership, volunteer and financial
support to numerous arts and culture, education, environmental,
economic development and community programs and organizations. For
