Hard Rock Las Vegas Reports Card Data Breach
June 27 2016 - 3:20PM
Dow Jones News
The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas said Monday that
customer payment-card data was accessed after malware was placed on
the resort's payment-card system, becoming the latest hotel to
report such a breach.
The company said the card-scraping malware identified data
including cardholder name, card number, expiration date and
internal verification code, in some cases. Hard Rock said that
cards used at some restaurant and retail outlets between Oct. 27
and March 21 could have been impacted. The number of potential
cards impacted wasn't immediately disclosed.
In the past year, Hyatt Hotels Inc., Starwood Hotels &
Resorts Worldwide Inc. and Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. all
reported data breaches of their credit and debit-card processing
systems.
The rock 'n' roll-themed casino said the unauthorized intrusions
were identified in May after it received reports of cards being
used fraudulently.
Law-enforcement officials and payment card networks have been
notified, and the company said it is working with cybersecurity
firms to strengthen the security of its systems.
