LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/
-- OmniVision Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: OVTI), a
leading developer of advanced digital imaging solutions, today
announced from the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, that it is collaborating with
Inuitive Ltd. to develop a reference design for building compact
modules that enable 3D imaging in consumer electronics.
OmniVision's family of computer vision-optimized sensors and
Inuitive's NU3000 ASIC, the most advanced 3D imaging and computer
vision processor in the industry, are capable of bringing a host of
advanced features for a wide range of consumer devices, including
smartphones, tablets, notebooks, smart TVs, and wearable
devices.
"We are proud to partner with OmniVision to develop a new line
of 3D cameras that enable advanced features such as augmented
reality, 3D scanning, post processing photography, natural user
interface and more," said Shlomo
Gadot, co-founder & CEO at Inuitive. "In our view, the
levels of performance and flexibility that these solutions offer
make them among the most competitive on the market for OEMs looking
to integrate 3D capabilities with their products."
"Inuitive shares a passion with OmniVision in developing imaging
technologies that can redefine the use of personal terminals.
OmniVision offers a wide range of image sensors suitable for
machine vision applications," said Tehzeeb
Gunja, senior partnership and business development manager
at OmniVision. "Our collaboration with Inuitive has resulted in a
competitive line of 3D camera solutions that meet the OEMs'
physical constraints and optical and sensitivity requirements for
multiple target applications. Going forward, our collaborative
efforts may include future machine-vision technologies such as
RGB-IR image sensors."
The new line of 3D cameras will utilize OmniVision's OV7251
global shutter image sensor or the quad high definition OV4688
image sensor. The OV7251 is a compact, low-power sensor built on a
high performance OmniPixel3-GS™ pixel that, when coupled with the
NU3000 ASIC, will enable advanced functionality such as accurate
depth sensing, 3D objects reconstruction, gesture detection, and
head tracking, among other features. The OV4688 leverages a
2-micron OmniBSI-2™ pixel to deliver best-in-class low-light
performance. The sensor is capable of recording 4-megapixel images
and video at up to 90 frames per second (FPS), and supports
optimized high dynamic range of up to 100dB.
