News Corp Chairman Rupert Murdoch and Chief Executive Robert Thomson saw their compensation increase in the latest fiscal year, helped by higher performance-based payments and an extra week.

News Corp, parent company of The Wall Street Journal, said in a regulatory filing that Mr. Thomson's compensation for the year ended June 30 was $11.3 million, up from $10.3 million in fiscal 2015. Mr. Murdoch's compensation, meanwhile, was valued at $5.34 million, up from $5.07 million the previous year.

Mr. Murdoch and Mr. Thomson continued to have base salaries of $1 million and $2 million respectively, with slightly higher totals for the latest fiscal year due to the inclusion of an extra week.

Mr. Murdoch received a $2.13 million cash incentive payment, compared with a $2 million target amount. The company said the increase reflected News Corp's financial results, strong performance in its digital real estate portfolio and "substantial de-risking."
