CHICAGO, May 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Fifth Third
Foundation has announced a $10,000
grant awarded to the American Red Cross to assist disaster relief
efforts for victims of the damage caused by the recent tornadoes in
Northern Illinois. Established in 1948, the Fifth Third
Foundation was the first philanthropic foundation established by a
financial institution. The Fifth Third Foundation makes grants in
the areas of the arts, civic and community development, health and
human services, and education.
"We are making this contribution to help the communities hit
hardest, so they can rebuild their homes and lives after the
devastating tornadoes," said Nicole
Johnson-Scales, SVP, Community Development, Fifth Third Bank
(Chicago).
"When tornadoes hit the communities of Rochelle and Fairdale on April 6, people looked to the Red Cross to
provide immediate disaster relief, such as food and shelter," said
Lisa La Sala, Executive Director,
American Red Cross of Northern
Illinois. "This generous gift from the Fifth Third
Foundation allows us to be prepared to help whenever disaster
strikes."
