SEMCO ENERGY Asks Customers to Keep Meters Clear of Snow and Ice PORT HURON, Mich., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- SEMCO ENERGY GAS COMPANY is asking customers to avoid piling snow and ice on gas meters when clearing sidewalks and driveways. Heavy buildups of snow and ice on meters and pipes can cause stress that may lead to gas leaks. Additionally, built-up snow and ice can hinder quick access to a shut-off valve in an emergency. Customers also are being asked to carefully clear icicles and other large amounts of ice from their roofs and around gas meters as a safety precaution. Falling ice, like heavy ice buildups on meters and pipes, also can cause stress that may lead to gas leaks. SEMCO ENERGY, Inc. distributes natural gas to more than 392,000 customers combined in Michigan, as SEMCO ENERGY GAS COMPANY, and in Alaska, as ENSTAR Natural Gas Company. It also owns and operates businesses involved in propane distribution, intrastate pipelines and natural gas storage in various regions of the United States.
