BARONESS USHA PRASHAR JOINS NATIONWIDE'S BOARD
AS AN INDEPENDENT, NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Nationwide Building Society today announces the Non-Executive
Director appointment of Baroness Usha Prashar, one of the UK's most
experienced policy advisors, with a 45-year career across the
not-for-profit and public sectors, onto its Board and Remuneration
Committee with immediate effect.
Baroness Prashar is currently a Member of European Union Select
Committee and Chairman of the House of Lords European Union Home
Affairs Sub-Committee. She is also Deputy Chair of the British
Council, where she also chairs their Remuneration Committee.
Previously, she has also held Non-Executive Director positions
at ITV, the Cabinet Office, Unite PLC, Channel 4, Energy Saving
Trust and Ealing, Hounslow and Hammersmith Health Authority. She
has also held senior positions at the Salzburg Seminar, National
Literacy Trust, Royal Commonwealth Society and was the inaugural
Chairman of the Judicial Appointments Commission.

Baroness Usha Prashar - Biography:
Usha Prashar has a 45-year career spanning the public,
not-for-profit and broadcasting sectors. One of the UK's most
experienced policy advisors, she has led a number of high profile
public and voluntary organisations.
The first Civil Service Commissioner, Usha has successfully led
institution change and transformation, such as reforming processes
and procedures whilst Executive Chairman of the Parole Board of
England and Wales and, as the inaugural chairman of the Judicial
Appointments Commission, establishing a new board and successful
organisation. Her work has consistently been at the heart of
community and society.
In her time as Non-Executive Director at ITV, she made a
significant contribution to setting the strategy and the
appointment of the new Chairman and Chief Executive, amidst the
backdrop of change in the broadcaster's content strategy. She also
chaired the Remuneration Committee during her tenure.
Her past appointments have also included: Director of the
National Council for Voluntary Organisations; Director of the
Runnymede Trust; the Lord Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Legal
Education and Conduct; and member of the Arts Council.
Baroness Prashar was born in Kenya. She attended the
Universities of Leeds and Glasgow. In recognition of her
contribution to community relations, she was awarded a CBE in 1995
and given a peerage in 1999. She sits in the House of Lords as a
Crossbencher.
