CHICAGO, May 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Effective immediately, the Chicago Sun-Times and WMAQ-TV/NBC5 have joined together in a new partnership. The teaming will allow both news outlets to share information and resources in serving their audiences. The most visible, initial stage of the partnership will be a preview of Sun-Times news stories in the "Tomorrow's Headlines" segment on NBC5's nightly 10 pm newscast. NBC5 promotions will appear daily in the Sun-Times. In addition, the newspaper and TV station plan to use the partnership to explore and pursue several other options. Those include joint investigations, election polling, co-sponsorship of community events, links from each other's websites and shared website traffic alerts. The NBC5 Weather Team will also become a presence on the daily Sun-Times weather page. "This is a terrific opportunity for both the Sun-Times and NBC5. It allows each of us to bring what we do best to vastly larger audiences," said John Barron, Sun-Times editor in chief. "The readers and viewers will benefit with easier access to more content. And we hope the combined power of NBC5 and the Sun-Times will allow us to have a greater impact with service to our community." "NBC5's partnership with the Chicago Sun-Times doubles the distribution potential for both of us," said Larry Wert, President and General Manager of NBC5. "We are looking forward to complementing our respective businesses and providing more exclusive content to both our audiences." "This is a great marriage of two outstanding news organizations," said Frank Whittaker, Vice-President of News at NBC5. "By working together on the air, in print and online, we can better serve our audiences with impactful, local content." In anticipation of this partnership on Monday, May 1st, NBC5.com's live coverage of the Immigration march was also streamed on suntimes.com. NBC5.com doubled its average page viewers to over 700,000 for the day. Suntimes.com also saw a 28% increase in page views for that day. On Sunday, May 7th and Monday, May 8th, the partnership's first joint project will be printed and aired. "Through the Eyes of a Killer" is a two- part series by Carol Marin and Don Moseley. In print, on television and online, Marin will offer an exclusive interview with Patty Columbo, who was convicted, along with her much older boyfriend, in the 1976 murders of her mother, father and younger brother in Elk Grove Village. Marin and Moseley also offer a fascinating look at the people involved and still haunted by this case that captured headlines for months.
