Super Vision International, Inc. (NASDAQ:SUPVA), a world leading
manufacturer of fiber optic and LED lighting systems, announced
today that over one mile of it's SideGlow(R) fiber optic lighting
cable and 75 illuminators are now being used to light the exterior
building perimeter of the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center in
Tampa, Florida as a part of the first phase of the artwork
"MARQUEE." The City of Tampa, in partnership with The National
Endowment for the Arts and The Friends of Public Art, developed a
public-private initiative called "Light On Tampa" to light up the
downtown area with some of the most innovative light-based artwork
in the nation through leading contemporary artists. Tobey Archer,
of south Florida, an artist well respected for her work with light,
including ambient, architectural, fiber optics and neon, often
combined with other materials, was awarded the initial contract for
the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center after winning a design
competition over several other nationally acclaimed artists. She
calls this artwork "MARQUEE." "We consider Ms. Archer's work to be
quite unique," stated Richard Heiner, Super Vision's Marketing
Director. "The rotating color filters in each illuminator vary
slightly in hue and give the illusion of movement through the fiber
optic cable as it changes various colors within each run. Super
Vision's motto is `Light, Color and Imagination' and Tobey's works
embodies that very spirit." "Historically, theaters have attracted
attention with displays of bright lights inviting the community to
enter," stated Tobey Archer. "MARQUEE represents a continuation of
that tradition by calling attention to the Tampa Bay Performing
Arts Center and Dr. Palavi Patel Conservatory. Highly visible and
carefully choreographed colored lights move in opposite directions
and at varied speeds on the buildings. They dance across the
rooftops and entice people inside the theaters to explore the
creativity of experienced performers and developing students alike.
The addition of MARQUEE makes Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center a
visible, identifiable, and unique landmark in downtown Tampa. This
work's physical form was inspired by the possibilities created by
the buildings' architecture." Certain of the above statements
