ATLANTA and BURBANK, Calif., Nov.
14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Moviecity, the best premium
experience in Latin America, and
Fox Latin American Channels signed a multi-year licensing and
programming distribution agreement with Starz Media Worldwide
Distribution that expands upon the current "Spartacus" licensing
pact and establishes a broader multiyear agreement for STARZ
Originals and feature film programming.
As part of the new deal, the upcoming STARZ Originals series,
"Magic City," and future STARZ Originals series distributed by
Starz Media Worldwide Distribution will be included. Also licensed
will be select feature films distributed by Starz Media Worldwide
Distribution. Films distributed historically by the group include
Anchor Bay Films and other licensed movie programming from
independent studios.
The STARZ Originals and movie programming will be distributed
exclusively in Brazil and Latin
American countries served by the Moviecity pay TV package and
includes Moviecity Play, the online service for Moviecity
subscribers that allows them to watch Moviecity content on their
computers for no extra charge. Fox Latin American Channels will
premiere the series in an exclusive basic cable window in the same
markets, as well as on the basic subscription on-demand service
FoxHits.
Moviecity has already aired the STARZ Originals series,
"Spartacus: Blood and Sand," and "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena,"
and is now airing the final episodes of "Camelot," a series that
aired on STARZ in the USA earlier
this year.
"Success with 'Spartacus' showed us the potential for future
STARZ Originals programming. We are excited about their vision for
future high quality projects and especially, the upcoming 'Magic
City.' We see Starz as one of the great premium programming
providers in the world and will certainly be a powerhouse for
series production in the future. Moviecity looks to expand upon
that success into Latin America –
we saw this opportunity and we worked to make it happen" said
Edgar Spielmann, CEO & President
of Moviecity."
"We are very excited with this new, expanded programming
licensing pact, as it allows us to keep providing high quality
content to our unique basic cable channels. Through this agreement
we reinforce our commitment with viewers in Latin America, bringing the best series
worldwide that translates into the great performance of our
channels," said Gonzalo Fiure, SVP
Strategic Content and Patricia
Daujotas, SVP Programming and Acquisition at Fox Latin
American Channels.
"With the exceptional talent and foresight of our creative and
production team at Starz, we have established ourselves as a major
supplier of high quality, unique and appealing television content
for global audiences," said Gene
George, lead executive for Starz Media Worldwide
Distribution. "We are very pleased to expand our business in
