Axis Communications, the world leader in network video, today introduces AXIS Q60-C PTZ Dome Network Cameras with integrated active cooling for high-quality and reliable video surveillance in extremely hot conditions up to 165° F. The high-speed pan/tilt/zoom IP cameras feature powerful zoom capabilities and resolutions up to 1080p HDTV, and come in easy-to-install, outdoor-ready housings.

The AXIS Q60-C Series has the ability to withstand sand and dust storms, and meets the United States Military Standard, MIL-STD-810G. This makes the cameras ideal for use at construction sites, mining, oil and gas facilities, and along remote pipeline installations, country borders and atop buildings for city or commercial surveillance.

High-quality PTZ IP cameras like those in the AXIS Q60 Series have delicate moving parts that must be protected from the elements to ensure reliable and optimal performance. A PTZ camera that is not designed to operate in extreme temperatures will experience extra wear and tear and have a shortened life span.

“A camera that is exposed to direct sunlight will have a significantly higher internal temperature than the outdoor air environment – sometimes more than 25 degrees higher – especially if the camera spends its day installed over a hot black rooftop,” said Fredrik Nilsson, general manager, Axis Communications. “While the AXIS Q60-E PTZs with Arctic Temperature Control work well throughout the winter and summertime in our northern cities, the AXIS Q60-C cool domes will be a welcomed product in the southern states, Mexico and the Caribbean where extreme heat can degrade the performance of a PTZ camera.”

AXIS Q60-C cameras can operate in 165 °F down to -4 °F, and their advanced climate control system can handle rapid temperature changes to eliminate condensation. The IP66- and NEMA 4X-rated cameras are dust and waterproof and require no additional housing. The cameras can handle a range of environmental conditions specified under MIL-STD-810G, including temperature shock, solar radiation and sand.

The camera models consist of:

  • AXIS Q6032-C with Extended D1 resolution and 35x optical zoom;
  • AXIS Q6034-C with HDTV 720p and 18x optical zoom;
  • AXIS Q6035-C with HDTV 1080p and 20x optical zoom.

The advanced climate control of the AXIS Q60-C Series leverages a Peltier element, which is a thermoelectric cooler, to cool air inside the camera and handle rapid temperature changes to eliminate condensation on the dome. It also supplies the camera with warm air in cold conditions (down to -4° F).

An AXIS Q60-C camera is connected to a supplied media converter switch that provides two SFP optical fiber slots and two RJ-45 connectors, which give installers the flexibility to cost-effectively connect the camera to the network in a daisy chain over long distances using fiber optic or standard network cables. The media converter switch also enables the camera to connect to 12 V power as well as to external alarm devices via two configurable input/output ports.

All AXIS Q60-C IP cameras support day and night functionality, wide dynamic range, H.264 and Motion JPEG compression, automatic guard tour, alarm management and intelligent video capabilities such as auto-tracking, Active Gatekeeper and 3rd party analytic applications from Axis’ partners. They are ONVIF conformant and are supported by AXIS Camera Station video management software as well as the industry’s largest base of application software through Axis’ Application Development Partner program.

AXIS Q60-C cameras are expected to be available to order in March 2012. The suggested retail price for AXIS Q6032-C is $3,699; AXIS Q6034-C is $4,099; and AXIS Q6035-C is $4,499. For photos and other resources, please visit www.axis.com/corporate/press/press_material.htm?key=q603xc.
