PARIS--German Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet Peugeot SA (UG.FR) Chief Executive Carlos Tavares, a Peugeot spokeswoman said Wednesday.

No date has been set for the meeting during which the two will discuss Peugeot's potential acquisitions of General Motors Co's (GM) Opel business, the car maker that employs more than 16,500 workers in Germany.

"Both Ms. Merkel and Mr. Tavares have busy schedules but they have agreed to meet," a Peugeot spokeswoman said.

She said that Mr. Tavares was also keen to meet the unions representing Opel workers who Tuesday expressed concern about the deal.
