PARIS--French power equipment maker Alstom SA (ALO.FR) said
Monday it signed a EUR335 million contract with Spanish power
utility Iberdrola (IBE.MC) to supply equipment and provide
maintenance for a combined-cycle power plant located in northern
Mexico.
The project is an expansion of a power plant dubbed Monterrey
III, which has already operated with Alstom-made turbines, for more
than a decade, the French company said.
The contract comes at the right time for Alstom. Its chief
executive, Patrick Kron, recently said the company's
power-equipment business suffers from weak demand for big-ticket
power equipment.
Alstom is in the process of selling that part of its operations
to U.S. rival General Electric Co. (GE).
