TRADING UPDATE - 5 June 2009 
Millbrook Scientific Instruments plc (AIM:MBK), the designer and manufacturer of 
innovative scientific instruments that measure nanoscale properties of thin 
films and coatings, today provides the following trading update. 
 
 
In the trading update issued on 8 April 2009, the Board reported that order 
intake during FY2009 was on budget for both NanoTest and MiniSIMS, totalling 
GBP2.9m for the Group. The Board also reported that the value of orders already 
received for shipment in FY2010 was very similar to the same time in FY2009. 
 
 
Unfortunately, order intake for Millbrook Instruments Limited, the subsidiary 
which manufactures the MiniSIMS instrument, has not continued at the same level. 
One MiniSIMS instrument that had been ordered and was in build at 31 March 2009 
was successfully shipped in the first quarter but two very strong prospects have 
failed to convert into orders for Quarter 1 of FY2010 delivery. 
 
 
The Board believes that this will create pressure on the working capital of the 
Group if no action is taken.  Given the level of fixed costs in the MiniSIMS 
business and the lumpy nature of its sales the Board has therefore resolved that 
it must actively implement a programme to cut costs and conserve cash whilst it 
considers its strategic options in respect of this business. 
 
 
The Board intends to ask Zeus Capital, its financial adviser, formally to 
consider the strategic options available to it with regard to the MiniSIMS 
business. 
 
 
Micro Materials Limited, the subsidiary based in Wrexham which manufactures the 
NanoTest, continues to trade satisfactorily.
