MUMBAI--ACC Ltd. (500410.BY) Thursday posted an about 52%
increase in its third-quarter consolidated net profit, helped by
higher cement prices.
The cement maker posted a net profit of 2.42 billion rupees ($45
million) for the July-September quarter, compared with 1.59 billion
rupees a year earlier.
Sales rose 12% to 25.56 billion rupees.
Its sales volume, however, declined 5% to 5.40 million metric
tons.
ACC expects its sales volume to increase in the next quarter as
the monsoon season has ended, it said in a statement.
Demand for cement in India usually drops during the
June-September monsoon season, when heavy rains affect construction
work.
ACC is one of the two Indian units of Swiss cement maker Holcim
Ltd. (HOLN.VX). The other unit, Ambuja Cements Ltd. (500425.BY), is
scheduled to announce its results later Thursday.
