YORK International Corporation (NYSE:YRK) is among a select group
of organizations and the only HVAC&R company to receive a 2005
Climate Protection Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA). YORK was recognized in an award presentation May 4 in
Washington, DC, for its pioneering work and ongoing development of
energy-saving technologies applied to chillers. YORK technology
reduces chiller energy consumption typically by 15-25% annually.
According to UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), it is
widely recognized that the indirect effect of electricity
consumption is the largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions
from chillers. Average annual energy savings of 20% mean a
significant reduction in CO2 emissions, resulting in substantial
climate protection. With its annual Climate Protection Awards, EPA
"honors the extraordinary accomplishments of individuals and
organizations that have made significant contributions to
protecting the environment," according to the agency's Web site.
"In 1998, EPA established the Climate Protection Awards to
recognize exceptional leadership, personal dedication, and
technical achievements in protecting the Earth's climate." YORK
International Corporation is a global provider of heating,
ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R)
products and services. YORK is the largest independent supplier of
HVAC&R equipment in the United States and a leading competitor
in the industry internationally. The company's products are sold in
more than 125 countries and YORK has approximately 23,800 employees
worldwide. Note to Editors: Additional background on YORK
technology pertaining to this award is attached to the release on
the Company's website at www.york.com.
