Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. ("NET") (NYSE: NWK) announced today that ITER, an international research and development project, is deploying NET's VX Series Unified Communications Gateways to enable ITER's move from a traditional hardware-based voice system to a software-powered voice solution. The VX platforms will allow ITER to bring voice services in-house and build a robust and reliable global network that supports the seamless deployment of Microsoft unified communications (UC) to ITER's locations around the world.

NET's VX Series, which is qualified for Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Release 2, offers ITER a "core" switching point for all its voice related services, providing ITER the ability to migrate to a UC environment. This solution delivers a complete, robust gateway for ITER's Microsoft OCS environment that includes PSTN access for national and international calls, switching of private traffic to the previous system, fax-over-IP, and video conferencing. With Microsoft's recent issuance of OCS Release 2, ITER will be able to smoothly integrate services such as enterprise voice conferencing and SIP trunking in the future.

"NET's VX Series delivers high availability with exceptional voice quality and was able to meet all of our technical requirements," said Juergen Dirnberger. "Further, the VX Series solution will enable us to extend globally the tools we use for voice calls while simplifying our communications, thereby increasing productivity. NET's technical support made the integration seamless."

"Our ability to accommodate nearly any type of existing network and telecom infrastructure makes our VX Series a compelling choice," said Francois Le, Vice President Global Sales at NET. "We are very pleased to provide ITER a solution to address their unique requirements."
