Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. ("NET") (NYSE: NWK) announced today the general availability of Release 4.7 of its VX Series secure voice solution. This latest release provides enhanced transport of modem signals across the IP network and advanced call control using the U.S. Government's Multi-Level Precedence and Preemption (MLPP) standard.

NET has been a market leader for providing reliable, efficient, and robust communications support for secure telephony over IP networks. Release 4.7 adds several key features to the company's VX Series, including support for V.150 Universal Modem Relay. The V.150 capability, when combined with the VX Series' existing ability to support TDM-based Secure Terminal Equipment (STE) and Secure Communications Interoperability Protocol (SCIP) phones, enables instant interoperability between old and new technologies. Further, NET's V.150 solution includes the company's Bestflow frame-packing technique, which allows VoIP to traverse firewalls, while providing bandwidth-saving capabilities and numerous features that protect the reliability of secure telephony over IP.

In addition to V.150 support, NET's VX Series Release 4.7 includes support for the Department of Defense's MLPP implementation over both packet and circuit networks. MLPP allows call precedence values to be enforced when networks exhibit resource contention or bandwidth limitations. NET's implementation of MLPP provides a robust and secure solution for MLPP, and when integrated with a network using Differentiated Services (DiffServ), provides MLPP-over-IP. Lastly, the latest release provides true SIP Trunking for the PBX, allowing easy deployment of new features without a full replacement of the PBX.

"NET places high importance on innovation while delivering products that support the evolving needs of both our government and our enterprise customers as they transition to IP-based networks. Our VX Series secure voice exchange offers the benefits of an IP environment while easily interfacing with existing equipment," said Nick Keating, President and Chief Executive Officer of NET. "Release 4.7 allows PBX vendors to place the VX Series on the trunk side of the PBX, which permits voice traffic to easily flow between TDM and IP networks. V.150 assures that TDM-based STE devices will be able to interface with new, secure IP Phones. "With this new release, the VX Series solves the problem of interoperability with legacy STE devices, even in the face of complicating factors such as bandwidth constraints, high degrees of latency, or packet loss."

NET will have VX Series platforms running Release 4.7 at the Technet Tampa 2009 show and the DISA Customer Partnership Conference in April 2009.
