Teleglobe International Holdings Ltd. (NASDAQ: TLGB), a leader in
international telecom services for Internet service providers
(ISPs) and fixed and mobile network operators, today announced the
opening of a new IP point of presence (PoP) in Warsaw, Poland. The
new IP PoP enables ISPs and carriers in the region to quickly and
easily connect their voice networks via VoIP and IP networks to
Teleglobe's global network for high quality voice and data
services. The new point of presence gives local Internet service
providers and carriers access to Teleglobe's robust, reliable
global network at competitive pricing. This access is of critical
importance as Polish companies reach out to the North American
market and rest of Europe. Neighboring countries, such as Belarus,
Lithuania, and Ukraine, also benefit from having a Teleglobe IP PoP
close by. Teleglobe has already connected its IP network to many
Polish companies including ATM, a provider of telecommunications
services throughout Poland and Multimedia, a leading Polish CATV
operator, broadband Internet and phone service provider in the
Warsaw IP PoP. "Opening a Teleglobe IP PoP in the region is good
news for Eastern European businesses, because the company is a
leading IP provider and its global network connects us to key
markets," said Janusz Nowakowski, Carrier Relationships Manager of
ATM. "They offer a great deal of flexibility as a partner and we
can take advantage of both voice and data services." "Teleglobe's
new IP PoP will provide high quality voice exchange, Internet
access and value added services to ISPs and carriers in Poland and
surrounding countries including the Ukraine which is a
fast-developing telecom industry, " said Marcin Raczkiewicz,
Teleglobe's Regional Director for Central and Eastern Europe. "This
is an important move for Teleglobe given the growth in the telecoms
sector in Poland as a result of the European Union. Poland is
neighbor to a number of the countries admitted to the EU last year,
which makes Warsaw a strategic site for an IP PoP." "Teleglobe's IP
PoP offers our customers secure access, faster connections, direct
regional connectivity to each other, and worldwide connectivity,"
said Wojciech Kamieniecki, Vice President, Manading Director of
Multimedia Polska. "It also offers a number of voice, data and
other value-added services, including IP transit and IPLs, making
it a comprehensive solution for all of our customers' connectivity
needs. Teleglobe's global expertise gives us the worldwide network
we need to compete in a global market." Dedicated international
access to the Teleglobe IP backbone is available from virtually any
country at bandwidth speeds ranging from 64 Kbps to 10Gbps.
Carriers and ISPs can connect to the Teleglobe Internet backbone
using access alternatives such as satellite or cable, leased line
or local loop, or Ethernet. Teleglobe is a global Tier 1 Internet
service provider and operates the IP backbone AS 6453 which circles
the globe. Its MPLS-enabled IP network connects more than 90
countries to the Internet and supports IPv6, the new generation IP
protocol. Teleglobe's IP network supports a wide variety of
advanced data and IP services including global IP transit,
international private leased circuits (IPLs), bandwidth capacity,
and broadcast services. Teleglobe has ownership in over 100 subsea
and terrestrial cable systems and has access to over 40 teleport
antennas and transponder capacity serving the Atlantic, Pacific,
and Indian Oceans.
