University of Rochester Medical Center Deploys Concord's eHealth(R) and SPECTRUM(R) Software Suites Combination Guarantees 24x7 Performance and Reliability for the Medical Center's Life-Saving Wired and Wireless Network MARLBORO, Mass., June 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Concord Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:CCRD) today announced that the University of Rochester Medical Center has deployed its eHealth(R) Suite in conjunction with its SPECTRUM(R) Integrity(TM) software platform to provide a comprehensive historical and real-time view into the medical center's wired and wireless infrastructure. The eHealth Suite provides detailed historical data for accurate IT capacity forecasting, while the SPECTRUM software provides a real-time view into network-wide availability and performance. "Our IT infrastructure is literally the backbone of the medical center's health care services," Gary Kobel, manager of customer support for the University of Rochester Medical Center, explained. "It supports a wide range of critical applications -- everything from patient registration and online medical records, to PACS imaging and video telemedicine. As our core medical and research services become increasingly dependent on technology, we find that any application or device degradation or failure has an extremely large impact on our organization's ability to operate effectively." Concord's eHealth and SPECTRUM solutions work hand-in-hand to provide seamless management of the medical center's expansive local and wide area network that connects two hospitals, schools of nursing, medicine and dentistry, and approximately 100 remote health and research locations. The eHealth Suite monitors performance and identifies trends, providing the intelligence that reports when network behavior deviates from normal patterns. The network operations team also uses the eHealth Suite as its WAN capacity planning tool to ensure that the medical center has the appropriate level of bandwidth. The SPECTRUM software manages the availability of 200 HP(R) and IBM(R) servers running Windows(R), Linux(R), and UNIX(R) operating systems, as well as 16,000 network connections across Enterasys(R) routers and switches. It uses patented root cause and impact analysis to pinpoint the exact location of problems anywhere in the network. The medical center also has approximately 100 wireless access points that provide connectivity to the application infrastructure via handheld PDAs and laptops on medical carts in its hospitals. In the future a major wireless project is planned which would add 1000 or more access points across the medical center, dramatically increasing the current wireless offering. The SPECTRUM software -- already managing the existing wireless network -- will scale to manage the larger deployment as it rolls out. According to Kevin Moran, network engineer at the medical center, the synergies between the eHealth and SPECTRUM solutions provide an ideal way to cross-check the performance of the entire network. "On one hand, the eHealth Suite is able to collect historical data so we can predict future needs and get out in front of problems. On the other hand, the SPECTRUM software's real- time analysis is a trusted tool that reliably expedites 24x7 notification of immediate problems and helps our front line support determine root causes and rapidly fix issues before users notice." Moran added, "We are very pleased with the product integration roadmap between the two solutions." The SPECTRUM OneClick(R) user interface provides executives with the ability to quickly view and understand network status and its impact on patient care delivery systems across the WAN. "The SPECTRUM OneClick interface is a radical improvement," Moran said. "With a glance, our help desk personnel can determine whether an issue is related to the network or servers, without needing extensive technical knowledge. This actionable information can then be shared with all interested parties, in particular the doctors, nurses, and care providers who look to the network to support them in their jobs." Moran praised Concord's technical support team. "I know my question will always be answered on the first call. They are by far my favorite vendor support team to work with."
