Executive Director Paul Kurtz Outlines Critical Information
ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Cyber Security Industry
Alliance (CSIA), the only public policy and advocacy group
dedicated exclusively to cyber security, today announced that CSIA
Executive Director Paul Kurtz testified today before a House Armed
Services Committee panel to outline critical issues facing the
Department of Defense (DoD) in the areas of information assurance
and information superiority. In front of the Committee's Asymmetric
and Unconventional Threats Panel, Kurtz outlined four areas of
information assurance that CSIA believes are most pressing for DoD:
* DoD's ability to secure warfighting and defense capabilities and
operations that depend on privately-owned and operated information
infrastructure and hardware and software produced. * The need to
build and support an information infrastructure that is resilient
and can operate under duress or attack. * DoD's role to defend and
respond to a cyber incident of "national significance" that does
not involve assets critical to its operations or under its
immediate control. * The absence of a national policy to assure the
security of critical U.S. information technology and
telecommunications infrastructures. "The Department of Defense has
a significant, yet still undefined, role to play in ensuring the
reliability and resiliency of our nation's information systems
given its own dependence on an information infrastructure that is
owned and operated by the private sector and its evolving role in
matters of homeland security," said Paul Kurtz, executive director
of CSIA. "I thank the House Armed Services Committee for its
attention to information assurance and security and the opportunity
to share CSIA's perspective on the areas that require attention
from DoD. CSIA looks forward to continued work with Congress, DoD
and other key stakeholders to improve the security of our nation's
information systems." To request a copy of the complete testimony,
