AFC Announces New ADSL2+ Plug-in Card AFC's Newest UniversalDSL Solution to be Unveiled at USTA Telecom '04 Annual Conference & Exhibition PETALUMA, Calif., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AFC(R) (NASDAQ:AFCI), The Acronym for Access(SM), today announced availability of a new AccessMAX(TM) plug-in card providing full ITU standards-compliant ADSL2+ features and benefits. AFC will host the first industry demonstration of the card next week at the USTA Telecom '04 Annual Conference & Exhibition in Las Vegas. AFC's newest product in its UniversalDSL(SM) solution, the ADSL2+ card is a high-performance, low-power device that enables carriers to bring integrated voice, video and data applications within the reach of more subscribers. Delivering services over a single copper pair, each card can simultaneously supply six ports of ADSL (up to 24Mbps) and POTS. Benefits of the new card include the potential for creation of incremental revenue from new services, as well as retention of existing customers in an increasingly competitive marketplace. From a back-office perspective, the new ADSL2+ card uses less power as a result of a more efficient design and new power-saving modes provided by the new ADSL standard, lowering operating expenses and allowing for greater port densities in both central office and remote cabinet applications. Additionally, advanced service and line monitoring capabilities of the new card provide further cost savings, while increasing total customer service satisfaction. "AFC's new ADSL2+ plug-in card delivers the scope, scalability and flexibility of services the operating companies are demanding, enabling them to provide uncompromised customer value in today's highly competitive environment," said John Schofield, chairman, president and CEO at AFC. "Boosting speed, increasing reliability, lowering power consumption and leveraging the power of fiber, regardless of a carrier's access architecture, build on AFC's leadership in the access network." In addition to full compliance with the G.992.5 standard, the ADSL2+ card also is fully compliant with the ITU-T G.992.3 (full rate ADSL2) standard, and is backward compatible with ADSL ITU-T G.992.1 (full rate ADSL), G.992.2 (G.lite) and T1.413-1998 (full rate ADSL) standards. "As part of our UniversalDSL solution, the ADSL2+ card provides our customers with a range of value propositions. The plug-in card is equally applicable both to greenfield installations supporting new residential or commercial developments, and to overbuilds or retrofits of existing facilities," said Schofield. "It can also be used in central office and remote settings by operating companies of all sizes. The device's single-card combination of narrowband and broadband services, built around the highly scalable AccessMAX platform, allows carriers to easily respond to unpredictable service demands without wholesale equipment replacement." Demonstration of ADSL2+ at USTA Telecom '04 Expo Currently being manufactured, this latest addition to AFC's UniversalDSL solution will be spotlighted at the upcoming USTA Telecom '04 Annual Convention & Exhibition, being held October 9 through 13 at the Venetian Hotel and Convention Center in Las Vegas. Members of AFC's ADSL2+ team will be in Booth #501 to demonstrate the new card, as well as other components of AFC's UniversalDSL and FiberDirect(SM) solutions.
