Suntech Power Holdings Co. (STP) has reached a deal to provide up to 5 megawatts worth of photovoltaic panels to solar-power system developer Standard Solar.

Financial terms weren't disclosed. The panels will be used by privately held Standard Solar, of Gaithersburg, Md., to supply power throughout the Midatlantic U.S. states. One megawatt is enough electricity to power about 750 to 1,000 typical homes.

The deal comes just days after China-based Suntech, the world's biggest maker of photovoltaic panels by revenue, raised its fourth-quarter sales forecast on stronger-than-expected shipments, but warned that falling prices will result in an inventory write-down and narrower margins.
